Yesterday was an interesting yard sale day. My husband went golfing so I had the option of either staying home with my 2yo son or taking him with me on my yard sale adventures. I decided to take him with me and I’m so glad that I did! We found a lot of great stuff for relatively cheap! My son was also an angel almost the whole time.
When we left the house in the morning I told my son that we were going on a hunt to look for cars. At every yard sale we stopped at my son would say “Car Car?” We didn’t get cars at many of the sales but we did get him a box full of them for $2 at my favorite yard sale of the day (more on that later).
The first sale we went to was a neighborhood yard sale in a town home community. There were about 10 sales with a variety of items. I found that many of the items were either not what I was looking for or not in great condition. A lot of what I’m doing these days is looking for items to resell. My son has plenty of toys and clothes for the most part so I only buy those items on the cheap to resell. At the town home sale I did find the following:
The Little People Airplane w/ people was only $1!
(3) Junie B Books + (1) Amelia Bedilia Book for $1
This Shake N Go Crash Up Speedway was $5 with all the parts and 2 cars! (I was worried that when I got it home I would find something wrong with it. Nope – except that it is tricky trying to put it together! Debating if I should sell it this week at the consignment sale or hold out to sell it closer to Christmas on eBay. Anyone have thoughts on that?)
On our way to the next yard sale on our list we drove by one and decided to stop. Sometimes shopping with a 2yo can be expensive. He found a play chainsaw that he fell in love with. I bought the chainsaw as a set with a toy drill (missing bits) and toy circular saw for $2. Not horribly expensive but not something I would have  bought had he not been with me.
The next sale was a goldmine and my favorite of the day. I could have bought a lot more than I did but I only had so much money to work with and it was only my third stop of the day (I did consider hitting up an ATM and going back but I decided I have enough items for now).  Right away my son found a box full of cars and he sat and happily played with them while I shopped. Here is what I found:
Little People Pirate Ship = $1
Box of Cars = $2
Leap Frog Magnetic Animal Farm = $2
Box of Mr. Potato Head parts= $3
See N’ Say = $.25
(34) Children’s Paperback Books = $1.75
I went to a couple of sales after this one but didn’t find anything spectacular. I did pick up this Blues Clues Talking Plush for $3.50. He needs new batteries but I’ve seen him sell for as much as $25 on eBay.
We were only out for about 2 hours and spent less than $25. Not a bad day at all!
I’d love to hear how you did this weekend! To make it easy for all of us I’ve created a link up via Linky Tools to share your blog posts about your finds. If you don’t have a blog feel free to share your finds in the comments.
Link Up Rules:
1.  Your link must bring people directly to a blogpost about your yard sale finds, not to your blog “in generalâ€.
2. Â Your yard sale finds link must be family friendly and appropriate!!
3.  You must include a live link back to www.onefrugalmomma.com somewhere on the blogpost you are linking up (ie. “I’m linking up with Coupon Tipsterâ€) so we can grow this linky party!

Oh darnit. I found that same Blues Clues at my Goodwill a month ago for $3.99. I didn’t have my phone with me, and I wasn’t willing to pay $4 for a dud plush, so I put it back. Argh. Can’t win ‘em all, huh?

I haven’t had any luck with newer Little People items like the airplane and pirate ship. I guess I’ll list them again and see happens as we get closer to Christmas. What are your thoughts on new Little People? I can only seem to sell vintage ones!

I’ve never sold the little people on Ebay. At least I haven’t yet. I tend to have great success selling them at the consignment sales. I’m going to try and list mine closer to Christmas also. Think they’d make a great gift!

I just sold some Noah’s Ark Little People and did pretty well. The ark was missing the top so I sold the little people in pairs and I sold Noah and his wife for $7. The others sold for $2.39, $1.05, and $.99. Not bad when it’s all added together!

That’s great Heather! I’ve never considered selling just the people. That’s a good idea. I know my son looses them all the time!

Great job. I found that same Blues Clues Plush a few weeks ago. It’s in my to be listed pile.

I’m excited because they just listed some pictures of the stuff available at the consignment sale and I saw one of those on a table! I’m interested to see the price!
