Spending Freeze – Week 1 SUCCESS

I am currently on a spending hiatus. I told myself that I am not allowed to shop AT ALL until everything I have is listed – no yard sales, no thrift stores, nothing! I haven’t even allowed myself to look at Craigslist or Facebook Yard Sales because those deals can be soooooo tempting. I am happy to report that I have been able to quell the urges to shop and filled my time listing like a mad women. I listed 40 items this weekend alone!

I currently have 351 items in my eBay store. My goal is to get 450 in my store by the time I leave on vacation… I have two weeks. The only problem is I keep selling things. I know it’s a good problem to have but it makes filling up my store more challenging. I found that once I hit 300 items in my store I started to see consistent sales so I might just shift my goal to keep my listings to more than 300 and anything else is a bonus. What do you think?

Here are some of my favorite sales from the past week:

My husband’s grandparent’s recently sold their home and before doing so they had to downsize. I was given some items to list in my eBay store including this 100 piece lot of vintage thread.

  • Acquired On:  February 2012
  • Listed On: March ?, 2012
  • Sold On: 7/16/12
  • Paid: $0
  • Sold For: $59.99 + shipping

Last weekend I went yard saling and came across someone selling their childhood toys from the 80s. One of the items was a set of 46 Micro Machines in their case.

  • Acquired On: 7/7/12
  • Listed On: 7/14/12
  • Sold On: 7/15/12
  • Paid: $5
  • Sold For: $48.99 +shipping

I picked this Wilton TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLE Cake Pan from 1989 at a church yard sale.

  • Acquired On: 6/9/12
  • Listed On: 7/1/12
  • Sold On: 7/11/12
  • Paid: $.50
  • Sold For: $24.50 +shipping

The more I list, the more I sell, the less I need to store and the closer I am to getting to shop again.

  1. No way! I have at least 3 big Ziploc bags full of those old thread spools in my closet. I haven’t sewn in a few years and probably won’t anytime in the near future. I might need to get them out and sell them!

  2. Totally feel your pain. I’ve got so much stuff that I’ve bought and not listed, that going through the bags and the piles to take get items ready for photos and listings is ALMOST as fun as shopping (since I’m constantly reminded… oh yeah – I forgot about that item!)

I’m still in the teens for my Ebay store and in the 20′s on my Etsy store http://www.etsy.com/shop/VintageMadLady . It’s clear I really need to LIST LIST LIST – if I want to make this viable.

    Thanks for the inspiration!
